Wailing

In the absence of company I hear my voice. It’s a little quiet, Broken from disuse But its melody is sweet.
It reminds me who I am. Softly nudging me, Back to the truth. It sings, with growing confidence, Thoughts I had previously forgotten And dreams I gave up on
When the traffic returns, the distractions arise It’s tune is fading to breathless sobs.
Every so often I hear it cry for me.
